Mate was developed as a brand and product concept for a high-end chess set designed to be permanently displayed. Too often, chess is packed away between uses or feels out of place in a modern space. This project aimed to rethink the board and pieces as intentional, architectural objects — timeless, heavy, and always ready to play.
Insight
People treat chess with reverence, but most sets feel like toys or decorative afterthoughts. For those who love the game and the look, the board deserves a permanent place in the home — not hidden in a box.
Idea
The design balances sculpture and function. A white marble board anchors the space, while the gold and silver pieces add contrast and weight. Each piece is minimal, geometric, and heavy enough to feel considered. It’s not meant to be stored — it’s meant to be seen, touched, and admired.
